23-37,101. Short title. (UCCJEA 101). The provisions of K.S.A. 23-37,101 through 23-37,405 may be cited as the uniform child-custody jurisdiction and enforcement act. In Kansas Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act does not apply to guardianship proceedings commenced prior to July 1, 2000. Ward v. Ward, 272 Kan. 12, 30 P.3d 1001 (2001). 2. Where state of California has assumed child custody jurisdiction as home state of child, Kansas court may not overrule California custody ruling. In re Marriage of Iwed, 34 Kan. App. 2d 178, 116 P.3d 36 (2005). 3. The court did not abuse its discretion by accepting and exercising jurisdiction over child in need of care proceedings after a California court transferred jurisdiction. In re A.A.-F., 310 Kan. 125, 444 P.3d 938 (2019). 4. District court errs by assuming subject-matter jurisdiction over a child in need of care case with interstate connections without ensuring the UCCJEA's provisions are satisfied. In re A.W., 60 Kan.
