72-245. Composition of state board; position numbers; residence qualification; filling vacancies; powers generally. (a) In compliance with sections 2 and 3 of article 6 of the constitution of this state, provisions are hereby made for the state board of education. The board shall be comprised of ten (10) members. The board shall have ten (10) board member positions, which are numbered one (1) to ten (10). The state is divided into ten (10) board member districts, which are numbered one (1) to ten (10). Each board member position shall correspond to the respectively numbered board member district. Each board member position shall be occupied by a resident of the board member district having the same number. (b) Members of the state board of education shall be elected as provided by law, except that vacancies occurring on the board shall be filled by appointment under the conditions herein specified. (c) The state board of education shall have the powers that it is specified to have in the constitution as such powers are more specifically described and defined by law.
