NMSA 1978, § 32A-3A-4

A. The department shall, subject to the availability of resources, design and implement a referral process to assist a child or family in accessing appropriate services. B. When the child involved in the referral process is an Indian child, the assessment and referral process shall include contact with the Indian child's tribe for the purpose of consulting and exchanging information.
