§ 12105. Purposes and Functions. The purposes of the Northern Marianas Technical Institute shall be to: (a) Establish career, trades and technical training programs by offering careeroriented training courses but not supplant, replace, or duplicate the career and technical education programs at the Northern Marianas College (NMC) or the Public School System (PSS). The programs will be designed to provide students with the opportunity to gain practical learning experiences focusing on critical thinking, new technologies, real-world settings, hands-on activities, and learning about practical problems; (b) Provide advanced trades, career and technical training courses for all public high school students that wish to pursue a vocational and trades career; (c) Authorize to* establish and maintain short-term extension programs and apprenticeship training programs in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands but not supplant, replace, or duplicate the extension and apprenticeship training programs at the Northern Marianas College or the Public School System; (d) Expand and maintain training programs in the career, trades and technical fields; (e) Establish a solid base and stability of financial resources which will aid NMTI in obtaining accreditation; (f) Award and confer appropriate certificates to qualified students. *So in original.
