§ 1271. Legislators’ Salaries. The members of the legislature shall receive an annual salary of $32,000. Commission Comment: The salary increase specified in PL 7-31, § 3 took effect January 13, 1992. Legislators’ salaries have increased as follows: N.M.I. Const. art. II, § 10 (effective January 9, 1978), specifies an initial salary of $8,000 (and also restricts increases in salaries); PL 4-32, § 3 (effective January 13, 1986) specified a salary of $30,000. In codifying PL 19-83, the Commission struck “.00” after “$70,000” pursuant to 1 CMC § 3806(g). PL 20-86 repealed and reenacted 1 CMC § 1271 and contained finding, savings, severability, and effective date clauses, in addition to the following implementation clause: Section 3. Implementation. The new salary level for the members of the legislature established by this Act shall be implemented beginning with the 21st Legislature. In codifying PL 20-86, the Commission struck “.00” after “32,000” pursuant to 1 CMC § 3806(g).
