§ 1609. Vacancies. Each vacancy shall be filled by the candidate who received the next highest vote in that school, except that no person filling a vacancy shall hold office longer than the remainder of the term for which his or her predecessor was elected. If there is no candidate to fill a vacancy, the student body of the respective school where the vacancy exists shall appoint an individual qualified to be a senator under 1 CMC § 1605 to fill the remaining term of his or her predecessor.
