§ 1802. Arson and Related Offenses. (a) A person commits the offense of arson if he or she starts a fire or causes an explosion with the purpose of: (1) Damaging a building or occupied structure of another; or (2) Destroying or damaging any property, whether that person’s or another’s, to collect insurance for the loss. (b) A person convicted under subsection (a) of this section may be punished by imprisonment for not more than 10 years. (c) A person commits the offense of reckless burning or exploding if he or she purposely starts a fire or explosion, whether on the person’s own property or another’s, and thereby recklessly: (1) Places another person in danger of death or bodily injury; or (2) Places the property of another in danger of damage or destruction.
