§ 25181. Service of Notices, Documents, etc. (a) Save where any other provision of this chapter otherwise provides, any direction, order, requisition or notice in writing or any other document or writing (hereinafter in this section referred to as a document) required or authorized by this chapter to be given to or served upon any person shall be taken to have been duly given or served if: (1) it is served personally on the person to whom it is directed or on a person authorized by that person, either generally or in a particular case, to accept service of documents on his behalf; (2) it is left at the place of residence or business of the person to whom it is directed last known to the person who gives or serves it; (3) it is sent by mail to the place of residence or business of the person to whom it is directed last known to the person who gives or serves it; or (4) where a manner of service is prescribed by any other chapter or law in relation to a person or class of person, it is served in the manner so prescribed. (b) Where any document is given or served, the person who gives or serves it may attend before a justice and depose an oath and in writing endorsed on a copy of the document to the manner of service thereof showing therein the date of personal service, leaving, posting or service in any other manner prescribed as aforesaid, as the case may be, of such document.
