§ 2604. Department of Public Health and Environmental Services: Additional Duties. (a) In addition, the Department of Public Health and Environmental Services shall be responsible for: (1) The prompt collection of vital statistical information concerning all births and deaths occurring in the Commonwealth; (2) Preparing forms and issuing instructions necessary for uniform registration of births and deaths; (3) Filing a copy of the certificate of such births and deaths with the Clerk of the Commonwealth Trial Court; and (4) Compiling, analyzing and publishing vital statistics concerning births and deaths, and such other general welfare of the inhabitants of the Commonwealth. (b) Other departments, as designated by the Governor, shall cooperate with and assist the Department of Public Health and Environmental Services in performing these functions. Section 4 of PL 6-25, the “Commonwealth Judicial Reorganization Act of 1989,” provides that “[w]herever the term ‘Commonwealth Trial Court’ appears in the Commonwealth Code, it is henceforth to be interpreted and understood to refer to the Commonwealth Superior Court.”
