§ 3193. Cruelty to Animals; Second Degree. (a) A person commits the crime of animal cruelty in the second degree if the person: (1) cruelly mistreats any animal, whether belonging to that person or another; (2) knowingly or intentionally abandons or deserts an animal being kept by or under the control of said person; or (3) cruelly neglects any animal being kept by or under the control of said person. (b) A person convicted under this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not more than $500.00 or perform 250 community work service hours, or both. (c) For purposes of this section, when more than one animal is involved in a violation, each act may comprise a separate offense. Source: PL 21-31, § 3 (July 7, 2020).
