§ 6811. Unauthorized Disclosure of Information. (a) Except for the purpose of the performance of his or her duties, compliance with any public law, or when lawfully required to do so by any court of competent jurisdiction, no government employee or other person shall disclose any information relating to the affairs of a bank or of any customer of a bank which he or she has acquired in the performance of duties or the exercise of his or her functions unless the bank or customer consents in writing to the disclosure. (b) Every person who knowingly and wilfully violates the provisions of this section may be found guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment not exceeding one year or by a fine not exceeding $5,000, or both.
