§ 7148. Flood Hazard Design Requirements. (a) Conformity to National Flood Insurance Act. Every building and structure and every portion thereof to which this code applies, construction of which begins after February 2, 1990, and which is to be built on an area designated as a special flood hazard area by the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Administration or by the appropriate local authority shall be designed to conform to provisions of the National Flood Insurance Act [42 U.S.C. § 4001 et seq.] and its implementing federal and Commonwealth regulations. The regulations shall contain the official flood hazard boundary maps of such areas and specific guidance and standards for alleviation of flood hazards. (b) Implementing Regulations. The director shall promulgate such regulations as are necessary to bring the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands into full compliance with the provisions of the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 [42 U.S.C. § 4001 et seq.].
