Purpose and Findings. The purpose of this chapter is to affirm and clarify the property rights of married persons in the Commonwealth. The legislature finds that the Commonwealth lacks statutory law which defines the respective property rights of married persons in the Commonwealth. This lack has opened the door to grave injustice in the distribution of marital property upon the dissolution of marriage or death, and in the exercise of property rights by spouses during marriage.
