§ 8265. Definitions. (a) “Certified medical statement” means a statement from an attending physician that a Commonwealth Government employee is needed to care for an immediate family member; (b) “Commonwealth Government employee” means an employee of any department, division, or agency of the Commonwealth Government including autonomous agencies; (c) “Immediate family member” means a legal spouse; child, whether natural or adopted; or parent. Commission Comment: Public Law 15-116 was enacted on November 29, 2007, and contained the following findings and purpose in addition to other enactments (see repeal of 1 CMC §§ 8276 and renumbering of articles 2 and 3 of Chapter 5, Division 8, herein) and severability and savings provisions: Section 1. Findings and Purpose. The Commonwealth Legislature finds that government employees should be permitted to use their earned sick leave to attend to immediate family members who are sick.
