Title 15, Holidays and Days of Special Observance

The month of November is observed annually as “Diabetes Awareness Month” in this state.

October 1 of every year is observed as “APDS Day,” to raise awareness for activated PI3K delta syndrome, and to bring attention to Tennesseans who are suffering from this disease.

The month of April of each year is hereby designated as “Tennessee Native Plant Month” in this state.

November 2 of each year is to be observed as “James K. Polk Day,” to honor the service of President James K. Polk to the State of Tennessee and the United States of America.

The third Sunday in June of each year is observed as “Fathers' Day,” to honor the noble and indispensable role that fathers play in Tennessee families.

August 8 of each year is observed as “Clog Dancing Day in the Volunteer State” to recognize the cultural, educational, and artistic contributions of clog dancing to this state and nation, and to encourage all Tennesseans to celebrate the history, musicality, and community spirit …

October 11 of each year is to be observed as “General Pulaski Memorial Day.” This day is not a legal holiday as defined in § 15-1-101.

May 1 of each year is observed as “Law Day,” to honor the rule of law as the bedrock of our political system.

November 9 of each year is to be observed as “Gold Star Father's Day,” to honor and recognize fathers who have lost children in service to the United States as members of the United States armed forces. This day shall not be a legal holiday as defined in § 15-1-101.

January 22 of each year is observed as “Sanctity of Life Day” so that Tennessee may renew its commitment each year to protect the sanctity of life, and to honor the lives of those unborn children lost to legalized abortion.
