Sec. 406.001. APPOINTMENTS. (a) The secretary of state may appoint a notary public at any time. (b) The secretary of state shall assign each notary public an identifying number and keep a record of the number assigned to each notary public. Acts 1987, 70th Leg., ch. 147, Sec. 1, eff.
