ACG Group was founded in 1961 by Makhanlal Rannvijay Sharma in Mumbai — originally as Associated Capsules Group, producing gelatin capsule shells for India's nascent pharmaceutical industry. The company grew with India's generic pharmaceutical sector as the 1970 Patents Act enabled Indian manufacturers to produce generic versions of patented drugs. ACG expanded from capsule shells into the full pharmaceutical packaging and machinery ecosystem over the 1980s-2000s, reasoning that its pharmaceutical manufacturing customers needed integrated solutions rather than point suppliers.
