China now dominates global LCD manufacturing, and CSOT is a prime reason. As Samsung Display and LG Display exited commodity LCD, BOE and CSOT absorbed the capacity — CSOT bought Samsung's Suzhou Gen-8.5 fab and 2,000+ LCD patents for $1.08B, a deal that helped push China to roughly half of world large-LCD output. With screens, the panel IS the product and the brand is just assembly and a logo on top. CSOT (TCL's display arm) makes LCD panels for far more than TCL's own TVs — the display inside a connected-fitness console, a third-party monitor, or a non-TCL television is frequently a generic CSOT or BOE panel with a different bezel and software. So shoppers picking between 'different' screen brands are often buying the same handful of Chinese panels, and a device maker's real supply dependency is the panel fab, not the brand it competes with.
