Delta Electronics was founded in 1971 in Taipei, Taiwan by Bruce Cheng (Zheng Chonghua), who started the company making small electronic fans and transformers. In the 1980s, Delta pivoted to switching power supplies (replacing linear power supplies with more efficient switched-mode designs), becoming an early mover in a product category that would grow into the backbone of global electronics power delivery. Delta's focus on energy efficiency became a competitive moat: they were early advocates and contributors to the 80 PLUS power supply certification program, and Delta Titanium-rated PSUs became the default choice for hyperscaler data centers demanding the highest conversion efficiency. By 2023, Delta Electronics had revenue exceeding USD $12 billion across power electronics, industrial automation, and building infrastructure — with the company's original fan and transformer manufacturing DNA now expressed as cooling unit CDUs (Coolant Distribution Units) for AI server liquid cooling and energy storage power conversion.
