Global Partners LP's terminal network is simultaneously the Northeast's primary heating oil distribution infrastructure AND the emerging renewable fuel distribution backbone for the same region. New York State (NYSERDA Bio-Heat mandate) and Massachusetts (Mass DEP Bioheat mandate) require heating oil sold in-state to contain increasing percentages of bioheat (FAME biodiesel blended into #2 heating oil) — rising to B10 and eventually B20 by 2030. Global Partners' terminals handle the blending logistics: conventional #2 heating oil enters the terminal system, biofuel is injected, and blended B5/B10/B20 Bioheat exits to consumers. The same terminal system distributing #2 fossil heating oil also distributes Renewable Diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil) for commercial trucking and Renewable Heating Oil blends for residential use — using identical tank farms, truck loading racks, and delivery infrastructure. A petroleum distributor built entirely around fossil fuels is becoming the logistics backbone for renewable fuel mandates in the states most aggressively transitioning away from fossil fuels.

Global Partners LP is a Massachusetts-based petroleum MLP controlled by the Slifka family — a Boston-area family that has operated petroleum distribution businesses in New England for over 80 years. The company's terminal network covers essentially all of New England and much of the Mid-Atlantic: 55 terminals serving a region with 5 million+ homes dependent on heating oil for winter warmth. The Albany, New York terminal is a structural bottleneck for interior New England supply: petroleum products traveling north and east from New York Harbor refineries and terminals enter the Hudson Valley via the Hudson River barge system, and Albany is the primary transfer point for truck distribution into central and western Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire. A private New England petroleum family controls a geographic chokepoint in winter heating oil distribution that affects the energy security of several million US homes.
