Gustav Wolf's wire products division manufactures tire bead wire — the precisely formed steel wire ring that locks a tire to its wheel rim, holding the tire under pressure during driving. This product sits inside every car and truck tire alongside the tire cord (steel lattice reinforcing the rubber), making Gustav Wolf a participant in the automotive tire supply chain alongside Bekaert (world's #1 tire cord manufacturer, which also owns Bridon-Bekaert wire ropes). Gustav Wolf additionally makes hydraulic hose wire (spiral-wound wire reinforcing rubber hoses under pressure), upholstery spring wire (furniture/automotive seating), and brush wire — connecting a 130-year-old elevator rope company to automotive manufacturing, hydraulic systems, and consumer furniture.

Gustav Wolf was founded in 1887 in Gütersloh, Germany and operated as a family-owned wire rope SME for 134 years. In December 2021, CMP Capital Management-Partners — a German PE firm specializing in distressed situations — acquired 100% of shares from the Wolf family through its GOF III distressed fund, installing new CEO Jens Waldau and CTO Dr. Konrad Stahr. This makes Gustav Wolf the only wire rope company among the major international crane rope suppliers to have undergone a distressed PE takeover in recent years. With approximately €80M in revenue, 500 employees, and eight production sites across Germany, France, Hungary, Poland, China (Suzhou), UAE, and the USA, Gustav Wolf is the smallest of the major crane rope brands — a 134-year-old family company now navigating a PE ownership model for the first time.
