The purified terephthalic acid (PTA) it produces at sites like Ulsan and Yeosu is polymerized into PET resin that splits two ways: blow-molded into the water and soda bottles of the world, and spun into polyester fiber for shirts, fleece and carpet. So a single Korean petrochemical company sits behind both the bottle in your hand and the shirt on your back, two products that look unrelated but are chemically the same plastic.
