Mitsubishi Pencil — the maker of uni, uni-ball, Jetstream and POSCA — is entirely unrelated to the Mitsubishi Group conglomerate (the cars, banks and heavy-industry keiretsu). There is no capital or business link; both independently use a near-identical three-diamond mark, which for the pencil firm is a coincidental kamon-style family crest it adopted in 1903. A globally famous corporate name and logo are split across two completely unconnected companies, and most consumers wrongly assume their pens come from the industrial giant.
