The supply chain is perfectly circular: SARIA collects bovine hides from the same slaughterhouses that supply the beef trim feedstock for sausages; the bovine corium (inner hide layer) is processed into collagen; Devro extrudes that collagen into edible casings; the casings are used to make sausages from the same animals whose hides were collected. SARIA has achieved vertical integration from slaughterhouse by-product collection to finished sausage casing — the entire animal is monetized within the same corporate family.

The Rethmann family thus controls two parallel waste-to-value systems: Remondis handles municipal and industrial solid waste, while SARIA handles animal by-products from European slaughterhouses and farms. In April 2023, SARIA acquired Devro plc (the world's largest collagen casing manufacturer) for approximately £1.07 billion, completing a vertical integration from by-product collection to finished food processing input.
