  • Did you know2023

Sinopec Yizheng is #1 in China for hollow polyester staple fiber production. Standard hollow PSF fills pillows and bedding. But "hollow fiber" technology in a finer denier form is also the basis for hollow fiber membrane modules — the key separation element in water filtration (desalination RO module housings), blood dialysis machines, and wastewater treatment MBR systems. Sinopec's state-owned polyester arm is thus a precursor supplier to both the consumer textile supply chain and the water infrastructure supply chain, with the same core polymer chemistry (PET hollow fiber extrusion) serving both markets. Water treatment infrastructure managers do not typically know their membrane fiber precursors come from the same commodity polyester plants that make pillow stuffing.

  • Origin2023

Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fiber was established in 1975 as one of China's first large-scale synthetic fiber plants, built during a period when China was seeking to reduce cotton dependence and develop industrial textile capacity for Maoist self-sufficiency goals. It was incorporated into Sinopec (China Petrochemical Corporation, state-owned) when China reorganized its petrochemical SOEs in the 1990s. In April 2025, Yizheng commissioned what is described as the world's largest single-train PTA unit (3 million tonnes/year), maintained Sinopec's position at the leading edge of Chinese PTA-polyester integration.
