The aluminum chlorohydrate (ACH) that Summit Reheis manufactures for antiperspirant use — plugging eccrine sweat pores in human armpits to reduce perspiration — is the same chemical compound, at lower purity grades, used by municipal water treatment plants as a coagulant to remove turbidity, bacteria, and organic compounds from drinking water. Polyaluminum chloride (PAC), a closely related aluminum hydrolysis product Summit Reheis also produces, is used by water utilities processing hundreds of millions of gallons per day. The chemistry is identical: aluminum ions in aqueous solution hydrolyze to form Al(OH)₃ polymeric flocs that adsorb negatively charged particles and bacteria — whether those particles are suspended sediment in a river drawn for municipal water supply or protein secretions at human skin pores. Summit Reheis simultaneously supplies: P&G's Secret and Old Spice antiperspirant manufacturing lines; Unilever's Dove and Degree formulation plants; and municipal water utility treatment plants in the US and globally.
