  • Did you know2022

Teufelberger's TEWE strapping division claims the world's largest and highest-performing industrial plastic strapping manufacturing facility in Wels — producing polypropylene (PP, since 1977) and polyester (PET, since 1997) strapping for securing freight, pallets, and bulk cargo. In April 2022, Teufelberger acquired the strapping division of Maillis Plastics Solutions (Poland), executing the deal jointly with US stretch film company Sigma Plastics Group in a coordinated split acquisition. Their better.collect program pays ~€300/ton for returned post-consumer PET strapping and reprocesses it at the Wels facility, creating a closed-loop manufacturing cycle across six European countries. The wire rope company that makes hoisting ropes for the world's largest port cranes is simultaneously one of Europe's leading industrial packaging strapping manufacturers — two product lines that share no technology but share a 7th-generation Austrian family owner.

  • Origin2024

Teufelberger was founded in 1790 in Wels, Upper Austria, twisting natural plant fibers into cordage. Over 234 years under the same family (currently seventh generation), the company evolved through synthetic fiber ropes (polyamide, polyester), wire rope, and polypropylene strapping — each transition following the same core competency of forming strong flexible linear structures. Key milestones: 1977 (PP strapping), 1997 (PET strapping), 2007 (acquired New England Ropes, USA), 2016 (acquired Mammut Sports Group's rope manufacturing plants), 2017 (acquired Redaelli Tecna, Italy, from Severstal Metiz). Teufelberger-Redaelli has broken the world record for the heaviest single wire rope ever manufactured five consecutive times since 2010, most recently in 2024 with a 495-ton, 160mm diameter, 4+ km rope. In an industry largely acquired by private equity (WireCo) or corporate JV (Bridon-Bekaert), Teufelberger remains a seventh-generation family business.
