Yarn spinning — turning raw cotton into the thread that gets woven into cloth — is the foundational, concentrated first stage of the cotton-textile chain, dominated by India, Pakistan, China and Turkey, and Vardhman is India's largest spinner. So the towels, sheets and apparel made worldwide ride on yarn from a few large Asian spinners, with Vardhman a key one: the same India/Pakistan concentration visible in finished home textiles (Welspun, Nishat) traced one step upstream to the yarn itself. Vardhman is also one of the world's largest makers of sewing thread — the literally invisible input that holds every stitched garment together. So one company supplies both the yarn the fabric is made of and the thread that sews the finished garment, occupying two distinct, concentrated chokepoints in apparel manufacturing that no clothing label ever mentions.

Vardhman also makes special steel. Through Vardhman Special Steels it produces alloy and engineering steel — bearing steel, gear steel and forging grades — for the automotive and engineering industries. So a cotton-yarn-and-sewing-thread company is also a specialty-steel maker, two industries with essentially nothing in common, joined inside one Indian industrial group. The firm whose thread sews your shirt also makes the alloy steel in car gears and bearings. It is another emerging-market conglomerate surprise where the "textile company" label completely hides a heavy-industry arm — a reminder that, in fast-industrializing economies, a single business group's footprint can leap from soft goods to hard metallurgy, and that supply-risk mapping has to follow the ownership, not just the obvious product.
