Vibram was born from a mountaineering disaster — founder Vitale Bramani created its first lugged rubber sole in 1937 after climbers died partly for want of proper grip — and that heritage made it a standard not just for hiking boots but for military and tactical footwear, where grip and durability are mission-critical. So an Italian rubber-sole maker sits under both luxury fashion footwear and defense procurement at once. Layer on its resoling ecosystem (Vibram-certified cobblers who re-sole worn boots), and the company is also a node in the repair-and-sustainability economy.
