Viscofan is simultaneously the world's largest manufacturer of four entirely different types of sausage casings: collagen (from bovine corium), cellulose (regenerated plant cellulose — the same material as viscose fabric), fibrous (cellulose + reinforcing fibers — similar to corrugated cardboard chemistry), and plastic (polyamide/polyester — the same polymers used in packaging films). Each casing type requires different chemistry, different raw materials, and serves different sausage categories. No other company holds a #1 or #2 position across all four casing types.
