Cerrado Mineiro Growing Region (Minas Gerais, Brazil)

Operated by COOXUPÉ (Cooperativa Regional de Cafeicultores em Guaxupé)BR · Minas Geraisgrowing_region

Cerrado Mineiro (Minas Gerais state; Patrocínio, Araxá, Patos de Minas, Unaí; elevation 850-1,100m; ~200,000 ha under coffee) is one of Brazil's premier Arabica growing regions and the first Brazilian coffee region to receive a Geographic Indication (GI) designation (2005). Cerrado produces dense, full-bodied Arabica beans with chocolate and caramel notes due to well-defined dry and rainy seasons (unlike Atlantic Forest regions). Major mechanized farming operations using laser-leveled topography and strip-picking machinery. The Cerrado suffered major climate events in July 2021 — unexpected frosts combined with severe drought destroyed an estimated 10-30% of the 2022/23 crop, contributing to the KC futures spike above $2.60/lb.
