Cerrado Cotton Belt (Mato Grosso / Bahia)

Brazilian Cerrado cotton belt (primary zones: Mato Grosso — Sorriso, Campo Verde, Primavera do Leste; Bahia — Luís Eduardo Magalhães 'Barreiras region'); Brazil's ~8-9% global cotton share is produced almost entirely in the Cerrado savanna on large mechanized farms averaging 1,000+ hectares. Brazil's Cerrado cotton expanded dramatically after China's partial boycott of US cotton post-2018 US-China trade war tariffs; Brazil became China's largest cotton supplier by volume 2022-2023. Brazilian cotton is machine-picked, integrated with soy rotation (cotton-soy double cropping in Mato Grosso), and exported through Santos and Paranaguá ports. Brazil's ABRAPA (cotton producers association) has invested heavily in sustainability certification (ABRAPA Standard) targeting European and Japanese mill buyers seeking non-Xinjiang, traceable cotton.
