Dow Silicones Midland Campus

Operated by Dow Inc. (Dow Silicones)US · Michiganchemical plant

Dow Chemical / Dow Corning's Midland, Michigan campus is the founding site of commercial silicone chemistry in the Western world. Dow Corning was established here in 1943 as a joint venture between Dow Chemical (headquartered in Midland) and Corning Glass Works. The Midland campus produces methylchlorosilane intermediates via the Müller-Rochow process (silicon metal + methyl chloride + copper catalyst → dimethyldichlorosilane), downstream polydimethylsiloxane polymers including personal care dimethicone fluids, and specialty silicone products. The campus spans approximately 2,000 acres and is one of the most historically significant chemical manufacturing sites in the United States.
