Facility
Government Opium and Alkaloid Works — Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh)
One of India's two state-owned opium processing facilities, established in 1820 under British colonial rule — making it one of the oldest opium processing factories in the world. Processes raw licit opium from Rajasthan farmers into morphine, codeine phosphate, and narcotine for pharmaceutical export. Indian codeine phosphate production for global OTC cough syrup markets is a major output. Operates under Narcotics Commissioner of India and Ministry of Finance.
