Metalkol RTR (Roan Tailings Reclamation)
Metalkol RTR is a unique cobalt-copper hydrometallurgical plant that reprocesses historical tailings (waste dumps) from the colonial-era Kolwezi mine, located 5km northwest of Kolwezi town. Owned and operated by Metalkol SA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eurasian Resources Group (ERG). Nameplate capacity: ~23,000 tonnes cobalt in hydroxide and ~100,000 tonnes copper cathode annually. Achieved design cobalt capacity in 2021. Metalkol's process uses no conventional mining — all feed material is reclaimed from existing tailings dumps — which gives it a different environmental and social profile than open-pit or underground mining. Compliant with OECD Due Diligence Guidance and RMI RMAP certification. Coordinates from Mindat.org (10°42'42"S 25°23'48"E). Source: ERG Africa Metalkol page; Miningdataonline; International Mining.
