Sakata Seed Europe, Bergschenhoek, South Holland, Netherlands — Sakata Seed Corporation's European R&D and commercial hub. Located approximately 10km north of Rotterdam, this facility conducts European breeding programs for tomato, broccoli, and other Sakata vegetable crops, adapted to European climate and regulatory requirements. Sakata's Bergschenhoek presence reflects Japan's strategic decision in the 1980s-1990s to embed its seed companies within the Dutch Seed Valley cluster to access European technology, breeding expertise, and commercial channels. The Netherlands' vegetable seed cluster is so dominant that even non-Dutch companies like Sakata have established major European operations within the cluster.
