Wacker Chemie Burghausen Site
Wacker Chemie's Burghausen, Bavaria site is the world's largest integrated single-site silicone production complex — a 500-hectare Verbund campus on the Salzach River (Austria border) employing approximately 6,000 people. Burghausen produces silicon metal (carbothermal reduction of quartz), methylchlorosilane intermediates, silicone polymers, BELSIL personal care dimethicone grades, and polysilicon for solar and semiconductors — all on one integrated campus. The site's Verbund integration means energy, heat, and chemical intermediates are recycled across production units, giving Wacker a cost advantage over standalone silicone plants.
