Capsaicin (Pharmaceutical-Grade, Topical Pain Relief API)

Capsaicin (8-methyl-N-vanillyl-6-nonenamide) — the pungent compound in chili peppers — is an FDA-approved active pharmaceutical ingredient for topical pain relief. At high concentrations (8%), capsaicin depletes substance P in nociceptors to provide lasting pain relief from postherpetic neuralgia and HIV-associated neuropathy (Qutenza® patch, Averitas Pharma). At lower concentrations (0.025-0.1%), it is used in OTC arthritis creams (Zostrix, Capzasin). Pharmaceutical-grade capsaicin is extracted from the same chili oleoresin process used for food seasoning, but at higher purity specifications. Primary producers: Synthite (India), Natural Capsaicinoids (Spain), American Health Holdings.
