Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle E— Reserve Components › Part I— ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION › Chapter 1005— ELEMENTS OF RESERVE COMPONENTS › § 10144
The Secretary may create a mobilization category in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) whose members can be ordered to active duty under section 12304. The IRR are Ready Reserve members not in the Selected Reserve or inactive National Guard. Members can be placed in that category only if they volunteer and are chosen by the Secretary. They cannot stay in it after the 24‑month period beginning on their separation from active service. The Secretary names the eligible grades and skills, and those members get Selected Reserve benefits except pay and training, as set by the Secretary of Defense.
