§10174 Air Force Reserve Command

Summary

The Secretary of the Air Force must set up an Air Force Reserve Command, with help from the Chief of Staff of the Air Force. That command will be a separate part of the Air Force. The Chief of Air Force Reserve will lead the command and report directly to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force. The Secretary must put all Air Force Reserve forces in the continental United States under that Reserve Command, except forces already assigned to the special operations unified combatant command under section 167. The Secretary must then assign those forces to combatant commands as the Secretary of Defense directs, unless the Secretary of Defense gives different orders for forces doing work listed in section 9013.

(a)Establishment of Command.— (b) Commander.—
The Secretary of the Air Force, with the advice and assistance of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, shall establish an Air Force Reserve Command. The Air Force Reserve Command shall be operated as a separate command of the Air Force.
(c)Assignment of Forces.—
The Secretary of the Air Force—
(1)shall assign to the Air Force Reserve Command all forces of the Air Force Reserve stationed in the continental United States other than forces assigned to the unified combatant command for special operations forces established pursuant to section 167 of this title; and
(2)except as otherwise directed by the Secretary of Defense in the case of forces assigned to carry out functions of the Secretary of the Air Force specified in section 9013 of this title, shall assign to the combatant commands all such forces assigned to the Air Force Reserve Command under paragraph (1) in the manner specified by the Secretary of Defense.
