Service secretaries can name one senior officer to handle reserve affairs and report directly to their service chief. That covers an Army general; a Navy flag officer and a Marine general; an Air Force general; and a Coast Guard flag officer. These appointments do not change roles of Chief of the National Guard Bureau, Chief of Army Reserve, or Chief of Air Force Reserve.
