§1042 Copy of Certificate of Service

Summary
You cannot be charged for a copy of a certificate that proves military service if you were discharged honorably or released under honorable conditions. The same rule applies to the person’s next of kin and to someone who legally represents them.

A fee for a copy of a certificate showing service in the armed forces may not be charged to—
(1)a person discharged or released from the armed forces honorably or under honorable conditions;
(2)the next of kin of the person; or
(3)a legal representative of the person.
