The Secretary of Defense may provide reintegration help to recovered Department of Defense members and post-isolation support to other recovered people, including U.S. Government officers or employees, allied or coalition military or civilian staff, and other U.S. or foreign nationals who were held captive or isolated during a U.S.-sponsored military mission. Help can include food, clothing, needed medical care, and essential items; travel or travel pay for up to three family members or other designated people if a military medical leader says their presence will help recovery; and transport or reimbursement to attend events that aid physical or mental health. Medical care for recovered people who are not service members may be provided for up to 20 days. Post-isolation support: debriefing, health help, and other actions to return to civilian or military life. Recovered person: someone returned alive after being detained or held captive during a U.S.-sponsored military activity. Reintegration: debriefing, health help, and other actions to return to military duty or Department of Defense work as quickly as possible.
