Each of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the department that runs the Coast Guard must keep a list called the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Medal of Honor Roll and put on it the names of people who served on active duty and received the Medal of Honor under sections 7271, 8291, or 9271 of this title or section 2732 of title 14. Every living person listed gets a certificate. A certified copy of that certificate must be sent to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs so the VA can pay the special pension under section 1562 of title 38 to the person named.
