§12525 Benefit Amounts

Summary

Sets the monthly pay for an insured member. The basic amount is $1,000 per month (this can be changed for inflation). A person can pick a smaller benefit equal to one-half the basic amount (so $500 per month before adjustments) or a larger choice of $1,500, $2,000, $2,500, $3,000, $3,500, $4,000, $4,500, or $5,000 per month (each adjusted for inflation). For a service period of less than one month, pay is 1/30 of the monthly rate times the number of days served. The Secretary must check inflation each year and adjust the dollar amounts to keep their buying power. If an adjusted amount is not a multiple of $10, round it to the nearest $10. If it is divisible by $5 but not by $10, round down to the next lower $10.
