§1492 Authority to Provide Travel and Transportation Allowances in Connection with Transfer Ceremonies of Certain Civilian Employees Who Die Overseas

Summary

Officials can pay travel and transportation costs so family members can attend transfer ceremonies when a civilian employee under their authority dies while overseas. Those family members can be treated the same way the military treats families of service members who die abroad. Covered employee: a civilian worker under the official’s authority who dies while located or serving overseas. Covered official: the Secretary of the military department involved or the head of a Defense Agency or DoD Field Activity. Covered relative: the primary next of kin, two other family members, and one or more additional family members (including a sibling if the Secretary allows).
