The Secretary of Defense may pay extra money to a civilian DoD officer or employee who is certified as proficient in a foreign language the Secretary says is important for collecting, producing, or sharing foreign intelligence. The person must be in, or eligible for, a job where that language helps do assigned intelligence or intelligence-related work. The Secretary sets the yearly amount of the special pay, and it can be paid in addition to any pay allowed under section 1602 of this title.
