Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle E— Reserve Components › Part IV— TRAINING FOR RESERVE COMPONENTS AND EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS › Chapter 1607— EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE FOR RESERVE COMPONENT MEMBERS SUPPORTING CONTINGENCY OPERATIONS AND CERTAIN OTHER OPERATIONS › § 16164
You keep education benefits while you are on active duty if you were called from the Selected Reserve or ordered from the Ready Reserve. If you leave the Selected Reserve after finishing that active service and completing your service contract under honorable conditions, your benefits last for 10 years starting on the day you separate. If you separate from the Ready Reserve because of a disability that was not caused by your own willful misconduct, and the disability began on or after the date you became eligible for benefits, your benefits end 10 years after the date you became eligible. The rules in subsections (d) and (f) of the related veterans law apply to that 10-year period.
