§1747 Acquisition Fellowship Program

Summary

The Secretary of Defense must create and run a fellowship program to help the Department hire people with strong acquisition skills. The Secretary may pick up to 25 prospective Department of Defense employees to be acquisition fellows. To qualify, a person must have at least 2 years of federal service in an acquisition job at the DoD and be in an acquisition job whose duties are likely to lead to legal limits on the jobs they can take after leaving government service. Fellows will be paid to do research or teach for 2 years in a field related to federal acquisition policy. That work can be done at the Defense Acquisition University, another federal professional school, or a nonprofit college or university. Each fellow’s pay will match the pay rate of the DoD position they held before starting the research or teaching.
