The Secretary of Defense can charge fees for giving data from the Federal Logistics Information System through Defense Logistics Information Services to other federal executive agencies (outside the Department of Defense), to states or their local governments, or to any person. The fees must be set to recover the cost of providing that data. Any fees collected go into the Defense Logistics Information Services budget for the fiscal year they are collected and are combined with and used like the rest of that budget. Defense Logistics Information Services — the office inside the Defense Logistics Agency that runs the system.
